Stuck

With all of the crazyness of the house, I haven't been to the gym in forever. I haven't been there since I injured myself with the interval workout at the beginning of March. Blah! I lost the contest with my family members and we talked about starting a new one however, everyone is going thru remodel hell right now except for one person. Not the best time to start something up. However, it might pull the focus back to the goal.

My personal goal is still in place. I would love to get 1200 minutes of exercise by Memorial Day, however, I haven't been counting painting and moving boxes. I guess if I paint for 8 hours I should count part of it huh? That will be the only way to make that goal right now.

The scale is still bouncing between my January 1st weight and a few pounds up from that. I haven't seen a number below my January 1st weight since last year. I have an appointment with the Gyn on Wednesday for the annual speculum visit. I plan on talking to her about birth control. I don't need it since I can't seem to get pregnant on my own but maybe it will help with getting other things under control. Like the icky hair growth among other things. I know that last time she wanted to do some tests but that was over a year ago so who knows what she will say now. All I know is that things are different now since we are not TTCing. Hopefully she can offer some insight and some options to help get the weight off.

Happy Saturday, I'm off to paint!

One Long Whine

In the last 30 days:

* We discovered a water leak from our dishwasher in our kitchen
* We received a collection letter from our original mortgage broker saying that we owed them our first mortgage payment ever even though it was paid
* We found out that we had to file an extension because other people have failed to provide necessary tax information to us in a timely manner
* We found out that my husband has to have eye surgery
* We found out that my insulin levels are through the roof
* We found out that a family friend has bone cancer in her spine...this is her 4th bout of cancer
* We had the seat belt get all messed up on one of our cars and it wasn't covered by the warranty---it was the first repair ever that we have had in warranty years not covered in the last 7 years.
* I have gotten my period twice and well...not 30 days apart
* We found out that a close coworker (so close that she helped him get his job) of my husband's is quitting tonight
* We have had to demolish our kitchen because of above water leak
* We stumped the orkin man ( but they did call back today and say that once the effected items are out of the house so will the bugs be)
* My doctor yelled at me for gaining weight
* We found out that our cat takes after my weight gain/loss issues
* My mother had a stomach cancer scare and still can't have a full colonscopy but hey...it's not cancer so okay good.
* I have been worried about DH's job since said coworker has announced to us that she was leaving.
* My work has been soooooooo busy (that is not the whine) that I haven't had time to do much if anything around the house so right now it is a complete clusterfuck since it was a mess to begin with
* My washer and dryer is in my kitchen so that means we are in great need of a trip to the Laundromat
* I have been soooo fatigued that I have been going to sleep at 9pm most nights.

Okay..well whining didn't help but maybe sleep will as I have to get up in ooo 4 or 5 hours to get the report done that I can't concentrate on now.

BLAH!

Dodged another bullet or did I?

Well, the results are in. My a1c is well within normal ranges! Yay! Still not diabetic. However......

the c-peptide results were not so good. Apparently my insulin level has jumped quite a bit over the past several months. Not a good thing. Everything else was within tolerable ranges including my cholesterol...HDL was just 44 so need to work on getting that up some more. My TSH was 2.7 but he didn't give me the lab ranges so I don't know what that corresponds to. Some people say that anything over 2 is considered hypo but when I suggested that previously I was told that the lab ranges are different. He did tell me that he doubts I have an insulinoma since according to him I would be passing out from low blood sugar if I did.

Anyways...I walked out of there with a BGL monitor to make sure that when I am having my "episodes" my Blood sugar isn't going dangerously low. I also got samples of a new medicine to try. He was originally going to add actos to my daily pills but then decided to switch to a combo pill when we were talking about the GI symptoms I am experiencing. Hopefully I will be able to tolerate the highest level of this med and that I will be able to stomach it. Most importantly is that my insulin levels go down with it instead of going up.

Blah!

Didn't you get the notice?

I guess that the Weather controller didn't get the notice.

It isn't supposed to snow after Easter! Or for that matter once the regular baseball season opens! How are they supposed to play ball in Wrigley field with snow on the grass?

Blech!

Update! They aren't playing today. Hopefully the extra day off will kick them off of their already too early losing streak!

Saturday Fun

So Saturday is usually a lazy day around our house unless we find the motivation to work on the house and get the shopping done. DH went to breakfast with a friend and I refrained from doing anything. I finally left to get a haircut and while at the local Supercuts (I was being cheap, she did a pretty good job), I remembered that I needed to pick up rolls and ingredients for the traditional green bean casserole. Luckily the Supercuts is near our local SuperTarget so I was saved a trip to the next town over.

Running through SuperTarget, without eating breakfast, is not a good thing. But, I am proud to say that I resisted the jelly beans once again and have not picked up a chocolate bunny. When I got out to my car, I called in a sandwich order. Ran over and picked that up and went home. This is where is gets a bit harry....

I brought the groceries and sandwiches in. Our fave feline was acting a bit off and was glued to the patio door. I just figured that one of his buddies was visiting and went about putting away the groceries. When we were done putting away the groceries, he was meowing at the door and I went over to see what was going on. One of his buddies was visiting and usually she runs away when we come to the window. She wouldn't move and she didn't even turn around when I knocked on the window. It was pretty cold out yesterday and I was concerned that there was a problem so I went outside to check on her. She was sitting on our deck but was facing away from the house. When I went outside, she couldn't even make a noise. She tried to meow but nothing came out. She actually sniffed my hand and did not run away. Something wasn't right because she tried to get up but only made it so far.

I went back in and told DH. He said "okay, let's call animal control". Now, don't get me wrong. I understand the risks that an unhealthy cat can have on our healthy one but I didn't want animal control to pick her up. I really thought that she was one of the kittens from across the way that run around all the time. I wanted to go over there and find out if she was but DH went out and looked at her. He said that even if she was one of their cats, that they haven't been taking care of her and that we should take her to a shelter. Closer examination showed that she has a really bad case of ear mites. She has a wound on her neck and is covered in bugs. Her fur is mottled and matted in spots. She is really thin and could hardly "talk".

We called the local humane society but they no longer take strays. You have to go through animal control and then they rescue them if they haven't been adopted in the time frame that animal control allows. I didn't think of calling the other local shelter before DH called animal control. In this time frame, she still hadn't moved off the deck. Highly unusual for the cats that come into our yard all the time. She didn't even get up when the dog next door started barking at her and running up and down the fence when he saw that I was outside. She tried to get up but couldn't.

Dh got off of the phone with animal control only to be told either call your police station or capture her yourself. At that time, I had already grabbed an old towel and went outside. She let me pick her up with no issues. I brought her in the garage and she continued not to fight. When DH came into the garage, she decided she wanted down. When he went to put her in the carrier, she did try to run out of the garage, even jumped up and rammed herself into the back door but then she just stunned herself. She was a bit feisty to get into the carrier but it only took 2 attempts.

I really just wanted to keep her in the garage over the weekend and take her to the vet Monday afternoon but DH was adamant that she get checked out right away. Especially since she normally runs away and it has been so cold out again. Our vet was closed for the day by the time all this happened so unfortunately the only option was animal control. We took her over there and she was quiet in the car. I'm not used to a cat being quiet in the car as ours howls and screeches when he is in the car. When we got there the vet tech took her back. She is a lot older than we thought so definitely not one of the kittens from across the way but I wonder if she is the mom. She really looks like them. He agreed that she is probably sick but didn't appear pregnant. Only time will tell. Animal control does not notify people that bring in strays if the animal becomes adoptable. I don't like that but I understand. I'm sure there are several reasons why.

By the time we got back, we had to scramble to get ready for dinner. We both took second showers just to be sure that we got whatever germs she might have had off and then rushed to get out of the house for my inlaws anniversary dinner. It went well but I regret not picking up the check for them. They didn't want us to pay but we still should have. Bad kids we are I guess.

As DH said, we will pay them back in the long run. We are planning on washing down several of the walls while they are on vacation this summer and we will make sure that we buy meals if we join them up at the lake this year.

Anyhow...DH didn't feel well after his meal last night and even still this morning. We didn't get to a church for the holiday service. Guess we really are the heathens people think we are :) I wasn't as good as I should of been last night but I didn't eat anything other than that meal for the day so I'm sure it evens out. I know...really bad habit but I had bought lunch--just didn't get to it.

Happy Easter and don't eat too many jelly beans.

mmm sounds Yummy!

Boston Chef has a homemade soup recipe up that sounds divine. I probably would sub a different type of bean but that is only because DH and I have decided that other than hummus, we don't really like chickpeas. I used to love them but... I can't get excited over them in recent days.

Go and check out their blog. They discovered Penzey's spices and have a few recipes that I need to try.

Things Unfinished

One of my really bad habits is that I start stuff and then never finish it. I don't do this with all things, if I did, I wouldn't have a job etc. However, sometimes I do this with hard stuff or with boring things.

I was cleaning off my documents from my old laptop today. It has been running like crud for a long time but now my DH uses it as a bonus computer and he was complaining so I thought I would see just how much junk I had on it that wasn't needed. Quite a bit actually and I sent myself some of the photos I had stored on it. As I was going through the files I came across my 101 things in 1000 days list that I started. The finish date is November 10, 2008 if that gives you an idea of how old it is.

Here is the list I started. Bolded items have been completed actually.

I wonder how many of these will stay unfinished.
